U.P. Home Inspection, LLC is proud to announce the addition of Anne “Ona” Martin to their professional team of certified home inspectors. As the company continues to expand its services across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Martin brings a unique blend of construction knowledge and communication expertise to her new role as a certified female home inspector.

Martin recently completed the InterNACHI® School Home Inspector Certificate Program through InterNACHI (International Association of Certified Home Inspectors), joining her husband, owner and certified home inspector Rich Beasley in the field, and adding to her roles in the fast-growing company as part of its strategic growth initiative.

Martin’s certification through InterNACHI represents a significant professional accomplishment. After passing InterNACHI’s Home Inspector Examination in August 2024, she completed a rigorous provisional certification period while actively participating in inspections. In March 2025, Martin completed the entire InterNACHI® School Home Inspector Certificate Program—the only home inspector college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET), a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This comprehensive program includes specialized courses in structural assessment, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, moisture intrusion, and numerous other critical inspection areas, ensuring Martin brings professional-grade expertise to every property she evaluates.

Musings of a Female Home Inspector

While she may be new to professional home inspection, Martin’s background in construction and real estate spans more than a decade. A former professional freelance business writer with over 12 years of professional experience writing for the home maintenance and construction industry (including two years as an agency blogger for Lowe’s for Pros), Martin brings a wealth of technical knowledge to her new role—especially when it comes to her favorite construction subjects: green building and energy efficiency. She also draws from practical experience as a landlord and her boots-on-the-ground involvement in constructing an earth-bermed home in southwest Wisconsin in the early 2000’s.

Martin has been instrumental in U.P. Home Inspection’s growth since its founding in 2019, managing the company’s web presence, social media, and marketing strategies. Becoming a certified female home inspector feels to her like a natural next step. “I’m an active person and love the hands-on aspect of home inspection work. It’s nice to be able to step away from the desk and still feel I’m being productive,” says Martin. “It’s also wonderful to have the opportunity to explore more of the UP while working alongside my husband.”

Women Breaking Ground in Home Inspection

As a female home inspector, Martin joins a growing movement of women entering the home inspection field. While women currently represent a small percentage of home inspectors nationwide, they often bring valuable perspectives and skills to the profession. Statistically, women have an edge over their male counterparts in communication and attention to detail, according to many studies. These are crucial skills for thorough home inspections and clear report writing.

Martin’s situation uniquely addresses many common concerns faced by women entering the home inspection field: while safety can be a consideration for female home inspectors working alone in vacant properties, U.P. Home Inspection’s team approach eliminates this concern.

“Working as a husband-wife team has lots of advantages,” Martin explains. “Working together, we can get through a house in half the time without sacrificing quality. The sellers especially appreciate that! It also allows us to leverage our complementary skills and expertise.”

One of these complimentary aspects has less to do with skills and more to do with size. At just under 5’4″ tall, Martin can squeeze into tight spaces far more comfortably than her tall, broad-shouldered hubby. “I do yoga every day and am pretty flexible, so getting down and scooting through a low crawl space doesn’t stress my body the way it does his,” she explains. “Sometimes I tell him, just get out of the way, I’ll handle this one.”

A Dynamic Home Inspection Team

The company’s innovative approach pairs Martin’s interior and building envelope focus with Beasley’s expertise in mechanical systems. This collaboration ensures comprehensive inspections while supporting Martin’s professional development.

“The current arrangement lets us complete inspections more efficiently, which benefits everyone involved – us, our clients, and the home occupants,” Martin explains. While she currently considers herself an apprentice, her goal is to eventually acquire the skills and knowledge base to confidently conduct complete home inspections independently. “Having two fully qualified inspectors on staff just makes good business sense,” she adds.

Growing Together: Personal and Professional

Beasley and Martin’s partnership extends beyond business – their professional collaboration grew from a personal connection that began in late 2018. After climbing Sugarloaf for their first date on Christmas Eve 2019, they married the following year and have been building both their personal and professional lives together ever since.

U.P. Home Inspection’s addition of Martin to their home inspector team reflects the company’s commitment to growth and professional excellence. Her unique combination of technical knowledge, communication skills, and hands-on experience positions her well to serve the home inspection needs of Upper Peninsula residents. And as a female home inspector, she can relate to the needs of women home buyers and sellers.
